Have you ever felt rejected by a person or an organization? Many times we don’t want to do something because we are afraid of being rejected.
In Mark 5 a man is rejected by the people from his town. Jesus accepts this man and heals him.
Discussion: Mark 5:1-20
- When Jesus got out of the boat, he met a man. Why had the people from the nearby town rejected this man?
- What was the man’s reaction when he saw Jesus?
- What question did Jesus ask the evil spirit? What was the answer to the question? (verse 9)
- What does the word “Legion” mean (see word list below)? How do you think this would describe the evil spirit?
- How did Jesus heal the man? What happened next? (verses 12-14)
- How is the man now described? (verse 15)
- Why do you think the people rejected Jesus? What did they ask him to do? (verses 15-16)
- Why do you think Jesus did not let the man come with him? How did the people in the Decapolis react to what the man told them? (verse 20)
- Mark 5 records two additional miracles. Notice that it says “So Jesus went with him” (verse 24). Where was Jesus going? What happened on the way?

“in his right mind” – someone who is calm, reasonable and sane
Decapolis – a Gentile area on the east side of the Sea of Galilee “the lake” identified by the ten Greek cities located there

| 5:29 | And straight away the fountain of her blood was stopped, and she had a feeling in her body that her disease had gone and she was well. | |
